Electric parking brakes (EPB) are commonly used on passenger cars today. While deploying the conventional parking brakes required some physical force, the electric ones only need driver to push a button to engage and will disengage automatically when the car is pulling away.

The brake force in electric parking brake is being generated by a DC motor called actuator or motor gear unit (MGU) and sometimes it may fail resulting in costly repairs.
